Downtown Winnipeg is about to get a little more delicious this March. From March 11 to 22, Dine and Discover Downtown will bring 31 restaurants, cafes and bars together for a city-centre food promotion built around limited-time features and accessible price points.
Whether you are in the mood for coffee, lunch, casual bites, happy hour or a more elevated meal, the new Downtown Winnipeg BIZ initiative gives people a reason to head downtown, try something different and support local businesses along the way.
For anyone looking for a practical excuse to eat their way through the core, this is it.
Downtown Winnipeg has no shortage of places to eat, but events like this help turn attention toward businesses that benefit from extra traffic during quieter stretches. It also gives Winnipeggers a reason to head into the core, walk a few blocks, try a new place and maybe discover a future favourite along the way.
According to the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, the goal is to create programming that reflects the downtown community while giving people more reasons to spend time there throughout the year. The organization says Dine and Discover Downtown is also intended to support local businesses during a period when foot traffic often slows down.
The participating lineup includes a broad mix of restaurants, cafes and bars, with featured offerings ranging from quick lunch combos to more distinctive specialty items.
Some of the Dine and Discover Downtown featured specials include:
- Banh Mi King, 510 Portage Ave 1 charbroiled pork sub, 2 pork spring rolls and 1 Vietnamese coffee for $15
- Birks Coffee, 276 Portage Ave Downtown Treat Combo with a caramel latte, toasted everything bagel with herbs and garlic cream cheese, and a brownie for $15
- Birks Coffee, 276 Portage Ave Downtown Lunch Duo with 2 raspberry mochas and 2 signature panini sandwiches for $25
- Bistro Boreal, 85 Israel Asper Way Roasted Honey-Gochugaru Pork Belly Bites for $15, with a vegetarian cauliflower bites option also available
- Blazing Chicken Shack, 392 Graham Ave Buffalo Ranch Crunch Sando for $25
As an added incentive, diners who take part in the promotion will also have the chance to win a $100 Downtown Winnipeg BIZ gift card each day from March 11 to 22.
